In my over 40 years in the antique business, I do not believe have seen a Victorian incise carved solid black walnut carved upholstered rocker with a glider base platform. I am just blown away as I have had thousands of rockers, but I have never had an upholstered Victorian one such as this. It even has the irons all stamped with a patent’s applied for. My eyes are bad nowadays but I believe the stamp embossed on the iron “gliders” was from the 1870s-1880s. the rocker is in original finish and it was reupholstered a while back with a gorgeous period style Victorian type fabric that is beautiful against the dark patina of the solid black walnut frame. The rocker dates from the 1870s to 1880s for sure. The upholstery is all good, tight and clean. The rocker itself is original, clean and has a wonderful patina. The overall size is 22 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 42 inches high to the crest. It appears to be all original and good. They put a couple of blocks on the back of the legs to make sure it wouldn’t fall over backwards when you were gliding, but even the rosette buttons all seem to be in place. It is a great looking chair that is rare on the market. If you are looking for something that you can brag to your friends that you have and they don’t…than this rocker is definitely it. I just noticed that it even has the original white porcelain castors on the front. Right on the back where it screws into the side post, you can see it has identical cracks on both sides, which is no big deal but I wanted to mention it. It will cost $165 to have this rocker shipped to most places in the USA, but please contact us to confirm the rate for your area.
