A magnificent piece of Victorian furniture, this walnut bookcase features four shelves, molded doors, a dovetail drawer and many other lovely details…Read More
This beautiful French walnut two-door bookcase has burl walnut carved raised panels, carved pillars and beautiful molded doors, and dates from the 1880s. It came in on the last container in stunning original condition. The four shelves on the inside are 11.5 inches deep and 38 inches wide, with the two most unusual molded doors with little circle caps on all four reverse corners. The coolest thing about this case is the design on the glass doors – it is stuck-on contact paper that looks like Victorian age drapes. We left it all intact because it’s gorgeous and in such nice shape, but you can remove it if you want just the looks of straight glass. It comes with a key, and the lock is one of those old locks that sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. It has carved pillar posts going down the outside corners, a picture frame molded hand cut dovetail drawer, carvings throughout the base, bun feet and a beautiful burl walnut incise carved top with canthus carved pillar tops, which will remind you of a typical American style Eastlake bookcase. It is dainty and petite, measuring outside 42 inches wide at widest point, 18 inches at the overhang at the top and 72 inches high, and the depth of the side panels is 14 inches deep, just to give you an idea of how petite it is. It is finished in a medium walnut color stain. What a lovely addition to your home or office! It will cost $365 to ship this bookcase to your home within the normal delivery area.
