This set of six tiger sawn oak Larkin ribbon-back chairs is a rare and hard to find item, made with care for many more years of durability and use…We are pleased to be offering one of the most unusual and hardest items to find these days: A complete set of six matching Larkin chairs in the ribbon-back pattern, completely refinished, re-glued, re-caned and retightened dating from the 1900's. This is not the diamond point or oval Larkin design that is known as the number one Larkin; this is the really hard to find pattern that older Antiques people may remember seeing in the 1970s, but that is not found very easily anymore. Larkin was a soap company that gave away coupons that could be traded for furniture. The Larkin desk and sewing table are well-known, along with their library tables and bookcases. But this style of chair is so rare that our owner has only seen it about 10 to 12 times in his lifetime, out of 5,000 or more sets of chairs he has encountered. In the Larkin books, you can find the rocking chair, that has the same pattern as this with the rolled arm. We have one of those that we are restoring right now. However, our owner still hasn’t found the Larkin catalog that has the side chair in it, but it definitely has the same back as the rocking chair. This particular set of chairs has been refinished in a dark oak stain to bring out the beautiful grains of the tiger sawn oak in the pressed-back and spindles. They have been sprayed with multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer, and then brand new pressed-cane seats have been installed in all the chairs. In the entire set, the only strange thing is that one chair had to have approximately ¼-inch added on to the feet because it was just a little shorter than the others. It has been fixed and is ready to be shipped. This set comes from right here in Maine, which offers some of the rarest and hardest to find antique items. Each of the chairs measures 18.5 inches wide at the seat, 17 inches deep, 12.5 inches high at the tallest point on the post and is 18 inches high to the seat. Each has a graceful one-piece flared back leg that has a hip-hugger that joins the back leg to the seat for style and durability. These chairs also feature triple cross spindles across the front of the turned legs and side-stretchers to ensure that the chairs will stay tight and sturdy for a long, long time. Imagine this rare and lovely set of chairs in your home. It will cost only $285 to have this set of six shipped to you, within the normal delivery area. [/DESC]
