We are pleased to be offering today this gorgeous triple heavily carved drawer Bombay front and side French carved style chest of drawers that probably date from the 1950s era, but is in wonderful condition. This style of furniture was very popular in Italy and France in the 1930s and 1940s. They came over many times in containers. This particular chest has survived over the years and the finish is luckily in great shape. This particular type of dresser back in those days would be finished by putting a beige background, highlight the moldings with a gold flaked painted trim that glistens, then they would hire housewives to paint the floral arrangements on the top and sides. You can see the brush marks in the bouquets of flowers on the front, sides, tops and moldings from being hand decorated. The overall size of the chest is 52 inches wide, 20 inches deep and 34 inches tall. It is very heavy and of great quality for the age. It is a great chest from the 1950s, I wish it was one of the originals from the 1860s as I would be able to put another zero at the end of the price, but it is just as beautiful. You get to enjoy the look of an expensive piece for a little price. The overall condition is good with just some haze marks here and there in the decoration, there are few little chips in the finish that we will touch up, but overall it is in wonderful condition. It has fancy French cabriole legs, swell front posts, wicked nice leaf carved applied handles, picture frame molding on the front where the Bombay comes out and meets in the center of the two drawers with a hand painted scene on the front. The sides have the similar design. Shipping starts at $299 for our normal area. Please contact John at 207-314-9621 to confirm that you are in our normal area prior to purchase.
