This is a wonderful French oak raised-panel carved multi-door sideboard, with a carved backsplash, and cabriole legs, dating from the 1950s era. Purchased from a New England auction, this gorgeous sideboard is in its original medium oak stain finish with just a little finish worn on the top. It comes with its original carved backsplash, has four raised-panel carved doors across the front and a dovetail raised-panel drawer above the two center doors. It comes with a key, four carved cabriole legs in the front with fancy scrollwork on the skirt, a shapely multi-molded beveled edge on top, and of course, the dainty little carved backsplash. The overall size is 82 inches long, 19 inches deep on the outside and 20 inches deep on the center section, 37 inches high to the top of the case, and 41 inches high to the top of the backsplash. This is a beautiful tiger-sawn oak leaded-door two-piece raised-panel heavily carved china closet/bookcase in the Louis XV style dating from the 1940s – ‘50s in original medium-oak stain finish. What a great look, with two carved doors in the base that open with a key, two leaded diamond-point doors that open up to reveal a dual-shelf interior with the plate rail intact, carved columns coming down the sides, cabriole carved legs, fancy filigree carved throughout, and on the sides of the cabinet are raised panels that really show the high quality of this piece. The overall size is 47 inches wide across the base, 16.5 inches deep, and 29 inches high. The overall height is 74 inches tall. The width of the top cabinet is 40 inches and the depth is 11 inches. The overall condition is good, with a few small cracks, on the bottom on the center raised carved panel, and there is a slight seam where the door joins together. This is a wonderful tiger-sawn oak art deco style window chest that dates from the 1920s or ‘30s. It’s a good-looking model, with a door on one side and a storage compartment, a drop down section perfect for a TV, two bow-front dovetail drawers, and then a door with another storage compartment. The hardware is an orange-tinted glass knob that is quite unique and definitely dates this item from the 1920s era. The chest is all of tiger-sawn oak. People use these all the time in front of the bed or under a window in the bedroom. This one measures 52 inches wide, 20 inches deep, 19 inches high to the lower part of the shelf, and 23 inches to the higher part of the shelf, and 21.5 inches to the backsplash. This is probably one of the absolute best walnut heavily carved cedar chests made by, of course, Lane of Alta Vista, Virginia, back in the 1930s. This is one of the very best cedar chests we’ve ever had the pleasure of owning. Featuring barley twist posts coming down both sides, notch molding across the front, a detailed bottom skirt with different styles of veneer accenting the trim, big bun feet, turned spindles, and right in the center of this greatest chest made by Lane is a detailed carving of a hunting scene, with a couple of knights going after wild boars in the forest. The scene depicts three hunters with a castle in the background, horses, dogs and lots of trees, and there is a signature down in the corner that appears to read “Mario.” It looks like it may be made of gesso, and it is over an inch and a half of relief. This chest is also a window seat with a backsplash; there is egg-and-dart molding, a full piece of matched walnut veneer, and on the backsplash is an urn carved out of wood, which is just stunning. When the lift-top is opened on this gorgeous chest, there is what is very rarely seen in a cedar chest anymore: The original Lane Cedar Chest Moth Insurance Policy, and an explanation of how it works. It says that the contents of this Lane cedar chest will be insured for $250 against moth damage at no cost to you, by the Aetna Insurance Co. I’m not sure if this is still in effect, but the paperwork is enclosed. Inside it is all cedar lined, it has the burnt-in logo of Lane Alta Vista, all the registered trademarks, and the lock has been taken out because of a recall. If you contact Lane, you can probably get a replacement lock. The overall size of this magnificent chest is 48 inches wide, 19 inches deep, 27.5 inches high to the top of the backsplash, and 24 inches to the top of the seat, and the size of the carving in the front picture frame panel is 31 inches wide and 9.5 inches high. If you’re looking for the best, and I mean the BEST, this chest is it. It has a few nicks and dings and a few tiny pieces of veneer missing on the base, but it is in overall incredible original condition. This is a beautiful little solid black walnut Civil War-era needlepoint or petit-point carved boudoir chair that dates from the 1860s. A great-looking chair with a solid black walnut frame, hand-carved roses on top, a flowing or graceful walnut frame that goes down into carved knuckle arms that are incorporated into the hip-rest of the seat, and cabriole legs. It’s finished off by a wonderful rose-carved serpentine skirt. The needlepoint is pretty and intact, although some of the gimp has frazzled up on the sides and we will glue it down. The chair itself is kind of unusual; you can tell it was sitting near a window. It didn’t fade the upholstery, but the wood is somewhat faded. The top is a medium amber color and the legs, where the sun didn’t hit, are a darker walnut color. It has its original casters, and is all set to go in the home. The overall size is 23 inches wide, 25 inches deep, 34 inches to the top of the carved back, and 15 inches to the top of the seat. Other than the gimp, or trim, being loose, which will be fixed, this chair is in beautiful condition. This is a great-looking solid black walnut finger-carved gentleman’s armchair that dates from the 1870s era. A nice chair that has been upholstered somewhere along the line in a bright-blue brocade style fabric. Someone has taken the time and expense to do the back of the old medallion carved chair perfectly with a buttoned and pleated tufted back. That costs a lot of money, and someone undertook that expense, because down at the bottom, they even beaded the separation between the skirt and the seat cushion. These are just little details that cost a lot of money when doing upholstering. The frame itself is all solid black walnut, carved back in the 1870s or ‘80s. The upholstery, as I’ve said, has been replaced and the chair is all tight and sturdy, and you couldn’t ask for a nicer chair that’s all ready to go into the home. It has carved knuckle arms, cabriole carved legs, a serpentine front skirt, an oval medallion back, all of solid black walnut and all in nice shape and in the dark walnut stain. This is a gorgeous art deco tiger-sawn oak carved triple-door front drop-center window bench or bedside bench that dates from the 1920s. This is a beautiful Victorian-style oak, three-drawer, door with towel rack commode or washstand that only dates from 35 years ago. This particular commode was made by a dear, dear friend of mine back in the late 1970s or early ‘80s, who had a vision that he wanted to make a whole line of oak furniture, and he came up with this commode, a half commode, a Larkin desk and a lamp table. I went out of my way to sell hundreds of them for him because he did such nice quality work. He copied the exact likeness, with the shapely scalloped top, scalloped towel rack, beautiful drawer configuration, and the only difference is that the drawers are stapled instead of dovetailed. This has held up great, because this particular piece was in my daughter’s bedroom for years, and she’s all grown up now. The finish is a dark oak stain, all original, and it shows a few nicks and a water ring on top, but it is in overall great condition. The overall size is 29 inches wide, 16 inches deep, 46 inches to the top of the towel rack and 29 inches high to the door. It is built just like the original, and has the drawers and the rack to put in linens and towels, and on the door is enough room to put in the slop jar that was always in the bedroom. Of course, a bowl and pitcher always are placed on the top. This is a really nice piece, and you won’t be able to find another one, because my friend passed away eight years ago. This is a beautiful pre-Civil War hand-carved Federal-type sofa with claw feet, in the Duncan Phyfe style dating from the 1850’s. It is very unusual, and we haven’t before had the pleasure of owning this particular model. It has an upholstered back, along with a wonderful flame mahogany raised panel center, a hand-carved oval crest in the center, carved rosettes, and carved arms that look like cornucopias, full of fruits and flowers. It comes out into a curved arm with what looks like eagle heads carved into the arms on both sides, into the rosettes, and scroll flowers coming down, then there is an oxbow-style curved skirt of all flame mahogany. There are also gorgeous detailed carved claw feet with pineapples and flowers and such. This sofa is just a great example of pre-Civil War cabinet craftsmanship. Of course, it has been reupholstered years ago in a light antique beige fabric, which is good and usable. The frame itself appears to be in its original dark reddish brown finish. The overall size is 72 inches wide on the outside of the arms, 58 inches wide on the inside of the arms, from front to back is 25 inches deep, 41.5 inches to the top of the crest, 33 inches high to the top of the arm, and the height to the seat is 22 inches high. A great-looking Federal style sofa, and you don’t want to mess around — this sofa will be gone before you finish thinking about it! This is a wonderful pre-Civil War flame mahogany period empire loveseat or sofa that dates from the 1850s or ‘60s. I’ve never gotten over the amazement at how many of this style of sofa we’ve had the good luck to find up here in New England, still in good original condition, like this one we’re selling today. It has flame mahogany with ribbon molding across the base, and some of the ribbon is missing, but we may have some in the shop that we can use to fix this, if you ask us at point of sale. It has carved scrolled arms in flame mahogany, a beautiful flame mahogany crested back with hand-carved roses right in the center, with a shield crest, and applied carvings on the outside, all hand-carved. It has what I believe is the original crushed velour fabric upholstery, which is an antique greenish with a yellow tint. It’s in really nice shape, although people usually disassemble the upholstery and replace it with new fabric with buttons and such, and these babies usually turn out really beautifully when that’s done. The condition of this one is really, really nice except for the small piece of molding that’s missing. The overall size is 82 inches wide on the outside of the arm, 60 inches wide on the inside of the arm, 28 inches deep from front to back, 36 inches high to the top of the carved rose crest, and 18 inches high to the seat. This is a beautiful triple-carved drawer racetrack molding, white and gray grain solid black walnut marble-top Civil War-era chest, with its original matching top mirror, candle shelves and ditty boxes. This chest is in beautiful original condition, dating from the 1850s-’60s. What a great look: It even has cookie corners on the marble of the ogee beveled edge white and gray grain marble top. The mirror swivels with threaded rods with walnut finials, a wonderful raised panel carved crested molded top, candle shelves for the oil lamps used back in those days, and nice little ditty boxes, with everything done in hand-cut dovetail. It features raised panel moldings, applied carvings, comes down into a cookie corner three-drawer chest base, with the big carved handles and racetrack molding. The overall size is 44 inches wide, the marble is 20.5 inches deep, 33.5 inches to the marble top, 37 inches high to the ditty boxes, which are 9.5 inches wide and 9.5 inches deep, and the overall height is 88 inches. The looking glass is 20 inches wide on just the glass and 35 inches high, and is in good condition. The overall condition of this chest is very, very nice and original for its age. There is a tiny little problem at the bottom of the baseboard that will be detailed out before shipping. Overall it’s a gorgeous Civil War-era chest, all ready to go in your home. This is a wonderful matched pair of unusual French night stands, with a gallery top and an extra shelf for plenty of storage. Usually these come through with no galleries on them. They date from the 1930s, are finished in a dark oak stain finished, and are truly a matched pair, as one door opens right, one opens left. They have great raised panel doors, fantastic tiger-sawn oak used throughout the entire cabinet, fancy brass hinges, wooden dainty turned knobs for handles and carved skirts. They also feature dainty cabriole legs, multi-molded edges on the round-cornered top, and then the unusual gallery bookcase top. They are 17 inches wide, 16 inches deep, 20 inches high to the top of the actual case, and to the top of the gallery back are 35 inches high. Antique Four-piece French Oak Marble-top Bedroom Set

This is a beautiful solid tiger-sawn oak, white with gray grain marble-top four-piece carved bedroom set that dates from the 1890s-1900s in original condition. This set consists of a bed, a marble-top night stand, a four-drawer marble-top beveled glass mirror chest and a beautiful and stunning two beveled-glass door, two-drawer oak wardrobe. Beautiful in condition, the overall color is a medium amber. The only thing I can see as a drawback is that on the bed one of the panels has a crack, but not so you can see through it. It can be pushed over so it looks like a lamination seam. Overall, this set is in really nice original condition. The marble-top chest has a white and gray grain marble top and a wonderful inch-and-a-half strong and bold beveled-glass mirror. The four drawers of this chest are all of hand-cut dovetail construction and the hardware is all the original French style. The overall size is 39 inches wide, 20 inches deep, 34 inches to the top of the marble top, and 64 inches to the top of the mirror. It features cabriole legs and panel sides, along with all the hardware. The oak bed is an off-size of 51 inches wide on the inside and 78 inches long. It would have to take a custom mattress or can be altered a bit on the rails to accommodate a full-size mattress. If the rails are altered a bit, a full-size mattress can sit on top of the rails and the angle brackets could hold it in place. The outside dimensions are 56 inches wide, the headboard is 53 inches high and the footboard is 44 inches high. It’s a great bed, with that crack in the panel. There are cabriole legs in the base. The night stand is 16 inches square and 34 inches high. It comes with a hand-cut dovetail drawer, a paneled door in the base, original French-style hardware and tall cabriole legs. Last but not least is the two-door beautiful wardrobe. It’s a great-looking model, which opens up to expose an interior that is 21
inches deep, and 53 inches wide. It has more than 64 inches of clearance inside. It has a shelf on top, a hanging rod and some hanging hooks. The two lovely beveled-glass doors can be closed, and there are two drawers in the base that are hand-cut dovetail and offer lots of storage space, as well. The outside dimensions of the wardrobe are 55 inches wide, 24 inches deep, and 95 inches high to the top of the carved crest, so it will just barely fit into a modern-day house. It is in outstanding condition, with raised panels across the face and all the French Victorian brass hardware is intact. There is one panel on the side that does have a crack, but is in otherwise wonderful condition, and makes for a beautiful fourth piece to this nice bedroom set. This is one of the only examples of this style I’ve ever seen: A simple, country oak triple-table/coffee table/window bench/nesting tables dating from the 1930s. It is of all oak construction, with multi-turn tapered spindle posts on the large table and the two small ones that slide underneath. It comes with an upholstered pad that sits on top of the large table, so it could be used as a fantastic bench, perhaps an organ or piano bench, and if you want a few of your friends to listen, slide out the other tables. I’ve been sitting on them, and I weigh 285, and they hold me just fine. It’s a great-looking set. The overall size of the large table is 34.5 inches long, 17 inches deep, and 18.5 inches high. The two smaller tables are 16 inches long, 13 inches deep and 17 inches high. The overall condition is good, there are some nicks and dings on the top where they have been used, but are terrific, nonetheless. You are buying all three pieces for one money. This is a gorgeous cloisonné style decorated four-door base cabinet with a triple-glass door top with three glass shelves in each section, for a total of nine shelves, dating from the 1940s or ‘50s. A beautiful piece, it features a light and all glass shelf top, gold foil paper back for reflecting the light to show off your dishes, and a four-door base cabinet. The ebony, black gloss background is decorated with birds and floral designs throughout the entire cabinet. The quality of the paint is really good, with no marks, crazing or chipping, and appears to have been well cared for. The overall size of the cabinet is 55 inches wide, 12 inches deep on the outside edges and 14 inches deep on the center, since it is a breakfront cabinet, and 80 inches tall. We sell this style of cabinet two or three times a year, and we’re really lucky to have bought such a high-quality piece as this one. There is even a stamp on the back saying it was made by Drexel. Antique Victorian Rococo-style Heavily Carved Armchair

You would have to go a long way to find a chair carved as well and in as much detail as this chair, other than a Belter or Meeks. It is all rosewood with possibly some walnut, it dates from the 1860s or ‘70s, and the hand-carved crest on the back is crazy! It has so many carved flowers, vines, leaves and such — I have never seen a Victorian gentleman’s armchair as heavily carved as this one. It has what appears to be the original upholstery, which is an antique green crushed velour, all buttoned and pleated in that tiny, extra-tight fashion. It’s very usable, has some minor water spots and stains, but no rips or tears. The frame of the chair is solid, and it looks to be in outstanding condition, with no cracks or seams in it. The patina is just what you would expect in a piece almost 140 years old — simply stunning. I will explain the chair, but you really should be seeing it in person to truly appreciate it. It has a carved crest with innumerable leaves, petals and flowers, a rose carved into the center, daisies, daffodils, and vines. It doesn’t stop, but comes down into where the arm joins the back, which is medallion shaped because the actual cushion sticks out. It is packed with carvings at the joint, and also where the seat joins the back. Then going down to the carved knuckles on the arms, and there are carvings on the elbows of the legs, and there is a wonderful carving of a rose right into the center of the skirt on the bottom. The only non-original thing on this chair is that someone replaced the casters on the front with casters that roll a bit smoother. The other interesting thing on this chair is that it is rosewood, not solid black walnut as we had previously thought. You’re buying a pre-Civil War rococo rosewood — not laminated but very thin, much like Meeks or Belter brands — oversized chair. This magnificent piece measures 28 inches wide across the outside of the arms, 21 inches wide on the inside of the arms, 23 inches deep from back to front, 44 inches tall to the back of the chair, and 19 inches high to the seat. Other than the replaced casters, everything on this chair is in wonderful, original and untouched condition.
