This is a most unusual find: A gorgeous and stunning solid oak heavily carved beveled glass five-door monumental bookcase/china cabinet.  Dating from the 1920s era, this piece comes from Belgium. Do not mistake this for one of the lesser-quality items from the 1940s that are sometimes sold on eBay for $700 or so. They are nothing like the exquisite quality of this five-door cabinet. There is a beveled glass center tombstone shaped panel door with two adjustable glass shelves, and a blue felt-lined interior, which becomes wood if the felt is removed. There is a matched pair of double carved solid oak doors with fleur-de-lis and clamshell carving on each of the four doors. When opened, the interior features a shelf set away and the cabinet comes with a key that seems to work, which is a rarity. Both of the double carved door compartments have shelves. In the base of the cabinet are five blind dovetail carved doors that support the heavy French Victorian hardware. The base also features incredible carved legs with ball and claw toenail feet, clamshell carvings and shapely scalloped skirts all the way around. Raised panels abound on this piece, on the sides and top and a paneled base on the bottom. This is a two piece cabinet: It separates from the base and the door top for easy movement. It features a rope-twist carving all along the outside edge along the top, and is all solid oak. Finished in a medium oak stain, this cabinet is in outstanding condition. There are two small hairline cracks in two of the raised panels, which is a cosmetic, not structural, flaw. This item is an oversized cabinet, measuring 98 inches wide, base is 18 inches deep, the top is 17 inches deep, overall height is 58 inches. The double doors are 31 inches wide and the single door in the center is 18 inches wide. This is a breakfront cabinet, which means the base protrudes in the center of the middle drawer, and the four other drawers step back three inches.
