This is a fantastic French carved shabby chic five-piece parlor set that dates from the 1920s. It consists of a gorgeous little settee, twin armchairs, and twin side chairs. The fabric has been redone and is a really nice soft cotton, has period style striped designs with a green and dark beige background and cranberry floral designs. It’s stunning against the notch carved frame of all the pieces that all have the bowtie crests in the center of each back. It’s in really good condition for its age, and looks as though it was factory painted the shabby chic color. They were ahead of their time when it came to style. Tapered fluted legs, floral carvings on the corner blocks on the legs, leaf carvings coming up the arm, rope twist carving across the fronts of the skirts, along the oval designs across the back of the settee, chairs and armchairs, and the condition overall is great. One chair shows a lamination seam where the chair is put together, but we will check this out and make sure they’re sturdy and strong. Other than that, there’s just the normal distress you’d find on the shabby chic finish. If they made this set new today, they’d make it look just like this! The size of the pieces, beginning with the settee, are 48 inches wide, 20 inches deep, 37 inches high to the top of the back and 19 inches high to the seat. The armchairs are 25 inches wide, 19 inches deep and 34.5 inches high and 17 inches to the seat. The side chairs measure 19 inches wide, 16 inches deep, 35 inches to the top of the bowtie crest, and 19 inches high to the seat. It’s amazing that this set has survived intact and in this beautiful condition for so many years. This is a five-piece set for one great price!
