We are pleased to be offering today this wonderful period country flax wheel that probably dates from the 1840s to 1850. It appears to be all complete. The up and down slat that holds the foot pedal to the metal hand wrought iron wheel balancer has a chunk of wood out of it, but it is still there and original. It has the bobbin head and un-winder. It has incise carved initials “G. Wood”. It is a great looking wheel. The leather that holds the bobber up has rotted and we have a finish nail holding it in place for the photos. It even has the top winder on it, which is usually missing. It has a nice patina. The wooden stretcher would remind you of a ruler and it goes into the foot peal with a piece of raw hide and then hooks up into a hole in the hand wrought iron wheel control and it has a little chunk of wood out about ½” wide which is easily repaired. The overall size of the wheel itself is 23 inches high, 38 inches long overall and the flare of the front legs is approximately 28 inches wide, 48 inches high overall to the top of the un-winder. You can see modern day flax wheels, but this one has a beautiful patina. Shipping is $145 for a driveway delivery in our normal area.
