This is a most beautiful flame mahogany kidney-shaped desk with satinwood inlaid with ebony, that dates from the 1920s or even as early as the 1880s. It is in the Hepplewhite style, and comes with four drawers on each bank or side, all hand-cut dovetailed and curved front, and a reverse-curve drawer in the center. It has four Hepplewhite-style tapered legs that are all satinwood inlaid, and it also has a total of five inlaid flame mahogany panels with the satinwood inlay that wrap themselves tastefully around the entire desk. The desk top is a kidney-shape design, like a painter’s palette, and has gorgeous flame mahogany wood for the inside and a beautiful satinwood racetrack border around the outside of the shapely design. We’ve re-sprayed the top to bring out the gorgeous grains of the flame mahogany matched veneer used. On the outside panels, you can see where there was one panel that cracked over the years where the inside of the wood didn’t move like the inside of the wood, so something had to give, which was the veneer. You can see a little line there that looks just like part of the grain. On the inside of the desk where your legs go, there is also another crack in the panel which you would never see but wanted to mention it. The only other problem I know of is that one of the original solid brass bale handles is missing on the bottom right-hand drawer, and we will replace it with one that is as similar as we can find. The desk itself has the brass-capped metal casters on all of the eight legs that support the desk. It is very dainty and very formal. The overall size is not as petite as it seems, measuring 57.5 inches at the widest point, 33 inches deep at the deepest point, and right in the center is 29 inches deep. The writing surface is 30.5 inches high, and the chair opening is 20 x 23 inches. The width of the center drawer is 20 inches and the outside drawers are 10.5 inches wide. It is all finished in a rich, beautiful reddish-brown color. You are buying a really gorgeous, heavy and stylish desk in unbelievable condition.
