This is a gorgeous four-piece reddish-brown mahogany serpentine-front poster full-size bedroom set that dates from the 1940s, made by the Huntley Furniture Company, known for its high-quality goods. In the Hepplewhite style with a high-style French ogee bracket applied base, the two case pieces have carved columns with floral designs, serpentine fronts, multi drawers, all dovetail, of course, and still sporting the fancy original antique brass-style hardware. The pieces themselves are stunning. The chest-on-chest is beautiful, with multi-molded edges. The overall size is 37 inches wide, 20 inches deep, and an overall height of 53 inches. It comes with three drawers on top, all serpentine and dovetail, and three extra deep drawers on bottom, also serpentine and dovetail, for extra storage. I just can’t get over how gorgeous the dark reddish-brown color of this set is. It has paneled sides on the base, plain sides on the top section, and the top itself has been re-sprayed to remove nicks and dings and to reveal the beautiful grains of the mahogany used. The next piece is the unusual nine-drawer chest. It has three small dovetail, reverse-curve drawers on the outside edge of each side, and three extra-deep drawers in the center. The top drawer is a faux double-drawer, but is actually a single drawer that is 5.5 inches deep. It has a serpentine front, molded edge, paneled sides, heavy antique brass-style hardware, and the high-style French Hepplewhite-footed base. It’s almost big enough to call a sideboard, measuring
58 inches wide, 22 inches deep, and 34 inches tall. Again, it is in the same amazing reddish-brown color. The next item, the wall mirror, has a beautiful design, with a pierce-cut cutout oval shape design on top with a clamshell, a dainty little carved post on each corner, a molded mahogany frame with a domed top, and a dainty molded crown. It measures 27 inches at its widest point, and
44 inches tall. The looking glass is 23.5 inches wide and 29.5 inches tall. This mirror is really beautiful all by itself. Last, but not least, is the full-size poster bed of all solid mahogany construction. It has dainty fluted finial posts, fluted tapered cross-spindle stretcher, and a solid mahogany shield on the headboard. The overall size is 55 inches wide on outside, 48 inches to the footboard post, 55 inches to the headboard post, 26 inches to the cross-stretcher on the footboard, 40 inches to the shield, and the inside dimension, for mattress purposes, on a double-hook wooden side rail, is 54 inches wide, and 75 inches long. It is a really stunning bed, and is finished in that really eye-catching reddish-brown color.
